Nooo…it’s more like 99% of our population was massacred :D And then our women were forcibly sterilized to try and prevent population growth. Add in a healthy dose of the government not giving one flying fuck about us dying from malnutrition, depression, or murder…and you’re gonna have one small population.

Fuck all that noise about pure blood. Which is just another phrasing of pure breed. The cousin of half and mixed breed. Someone tell me again why folks think colonization has ended. Seriously. That shit is inherently fucked up. The concept of ‘purity’ continues to be one of the colonial settler governments (and society at large ) tools for both denying the existence of some Native cultures and controlling others. Specifically looking at the SE of the US where Maryland/Virginia/North Carolina (and probably more states) have used the ‘mixed blood’ of self-identified Native people to legally deny their existence. This practice is so much a part of the ‘American’ imagination that most folks believe that Native Americans have been ‘mixed’ out of existence. It’s common to hear dismissive comments like “everyone is a little Native American” used to legitimize the ancestry and experiences of Native Americans today. I have zero tolerance for folks that perpetuate this bullshit.
